Service to one’s community is a concept State Representative John Fichter takes seriously. His long and distinguished record of service includes six terms as state representative for the 70th House District as well as twenty-five years experience in local government. At the local level, John served 13 years as Auditor for East Norriton Township, five years on the township Planning Commission, including a year as chairman, and eight years on the Board of Supervisors, four as Chairman. Because of his knowledge and experience in local government issues, he was selected Chairman of the Montgomery County Association of Township Officials. In addition to his years of service as an elected official, John has been an active participant in community organizations such as the Greater Norristown Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors of Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library and Senior Adult Activity Center. He is an active member of the Republican party, serving as a member of state committee for twelve years and area leader for the past decade. His military record includes service in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He has held positions in private industry as an employee benefits manager. John first won election to the 70th legislative district in 1992. A graduate of Norristown High School and Ursinus College, John resides in East Norriton Township with his wife Maryann. They have three children: Nancy L., Barbara Fichter Metz and Dorothy Fichter Cross, and the proud Grandfather of six Grandchildren. The 70th House District includes Lower Salford Township, Worcester Township, and 7 of 8 districts in East Norriton, Skippack, 8 of 12 wards in Norristown, and Towamencin townships.
